We have identified Cocke County's neediest areas:
Breakdown of the Family
Empower Cocke County was established in 2013. It started as the grassroots effort of a local church that was too large for one group. We welcomed in other churches and now have representation from many different denominations. We target these issues through Evangelism, the Hopeline and Vocational Rehabilitation.
A collaborative effort of local churches to reach Cocke County with the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Empower Cocke County desires to see positive life change by helping individuals cease destructive behavior through following the teaching of Jesus Christ. We intend to do this by calling local bodies of Christ together, working side by side in one accord, to accomplish what no one church can do alone.
Living Free Classes are available both online and in person. This curriculum is based on Teen Challenge focusing on the teaching of Jesus in regards to addiction, anger, depression, etc. We are trained to do court appointed evaluations. Also we hope to empower the whole family as addiction affects everyone, not just the person that is struggling.
Empower Cocke County is taking Jesus's command seriously to care for the elderly. Empower My Ride uses volunteer drivers to assist those over age 60 with needed transportation. They are able to assist clients to medical appointments, go pick up supplies and other errands. More importantly, Empower My Ride gives a personal relational approach to being the hands of feet of Jesus.
E2: YouthE2: Equipping and Empowering the Youth of Cocke County
Teen Challenge partners with Empower Cocke County to offer their Stay Sharp Program in Cocke County schools. This program allows middle school and high school preteens and teens to hear from ladies who have struggled with addiction. It gives them a face of someone who has taken steps to heal.
Likewise, Empowering Kids helps younger children build a relationship with God to fill the void in their lives that many use addiction to self medicate. At Empower we know it is far better to avoid addiction in the first place than to try to treat it.
We are blessed to work with ETHRA's Senior Community Service Employment Program and Heartland Services in the By the Pound Store. This program allows the elderly and disabled a safe working environment while developing job skills. The store allows our community to have affordable furniture and clothing and supports our vocational rehab endeavors. We hope you will come by and meet our team!
Workforce development has become a multifaceted approach at community wellbeing. Not only are men and women learning the soft skills of keeping a job, but they are developing skills that will support their families in the future. The community also has access to lower cost handyman skills so everyone benefits from this program!
