Construction: A Leap of Faith

Beginning Stages
We are excited to have purchased 7 acres and a home for men coming out of addiction. These men will study God's Word, Living Free curriculum to break addiction and Jobs for Life for the soft skills of working. As they heal from addiction, the men will be taught trade skills so that once they graduate they can obtain meaningful employment. This process will break the cycle of poverty and addiction in our community.
We will be welcoming groups to help us renovate the home and the surrounding property.

Dear Cocke County Citizens:
Empower Cocke County would like to humbly address the concerns with regards to our Workforce Development Project. As many of you know, since 2014 we have tirelessly worked to reduce our county’s neediest areas of poverty, depression, the breakdown of the family, and addiction. We have learned over the years that many cannot overcome their strongholds without having meaningful employment and housing. As you can imagine, if you are trying to get your life together and must return to your prior friends and lack of wages, it is incredibly hard to succeed.
This project involves two locations in the county, primarily. Our headquarters in downtown located next to the courthouse, and the site currently under construction across from Northwest School. The downtown location will serve as the primary training facility for daytime activities. The facility across from Northwest will simply serve as housing for the program participants. Obviously, this facility will be rigorously supervised and secure.
We understand your concerns for the location of this project being near Northwest School. We have been working with professional planners to develop a safe and successful plan. We have visited multiple, similar facilities and worked diligently to ensure this plan has the highest chance of success. At the forefront of each step, safety and security for the clients of the program and the community at large have been top priority. We can assure you there will always be a rigorous screening process for any potential client or volunteer. Obviously, we will NOT work with any individual who would be a threat to children.
Empower Cocke County is a non-profit 501c3 organization and is comprised of several Cocke County citizens, many whom are your friends, neighbors and fellow church members. We feel the Workforce Development Project is so desperately needed in our county. We are compiling a list of the community’s questions and will address them in the upcoming days. We look forward to answering your questions and address your concerns.
Empower Cocke County’s mission is to accomplish positive life change by helping individuals cease destructive behavior through following the teaching of Jesus Christ.
Sincerely, The Community Representatives of Empower Cocke County’s Board
